Childhood cancer refers to cancer in people under the age of 18. Children have a lower rate of cancer. Between 0.5% and 4.6% of cancer patients worldwide are children.
According to the World Health Organization, at least three million children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Only 70% of these children can be cured through treatment. However, in low-income countries, 90 percent of children die of cancer due to lack of access to health care.
Children have a lower risk of developing cancer. However, there are some reasons why children get cancer. One of them is exposure to harmful rays.
The World Health Organization says many children are more likely to develop cancer due to genetic factors. Such examples are commonly found in racially isolated communities.
This may also be due to the fact that the sensitivities vary from person to person based on genetics. Some studies have shown that in addition to the Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis B, human herpes and the HIV virus can also increase the risk of cancer in children.
According to the WHO, most cancers in children have no such symptoms. Due to which it is detected late. In the developed world, since children are closely monitored by their parents and have access to treatment, it is possible to detect cancer at an early stage.
In low-income countries, health care and testing opportunities are scarce and are not caught early.
Cancer in children is slightly different than in adults. The World Health Organization says leukemia or leukemia is more common in children. One-third of children with cancer have leukemia.
There are also other types of cancers, such as lymphomas and various types of tumors in the central nervous system. There are some cancers that only affect children. Such as neuroblastoma, nephroblastoma, medulloblastoma, and retinoblastoma.
Breast cancer, lung, colon or rectal cancer usually occurs in adults. This type of cancer in children is very rare. Children can get kidney cancer, some cancers of the brain and some cancers of the blood.
According to doctors, cancer can occur in children of any age. However, leukemia usually occurs after the age of one year. It is more common in children aged one to five years. “Leucoma is also a cancer that can affect children of any age.”
Children are usually unaware of their disease and most of the time they don’t even understand how it actually feels. Experts have suggested that parents should be enterprising in this regard.
If the child has the following symptoms, a doctor should be consulted without delay. However, having these symptoms does not mean that they have cancer. However, if there are symptoms, a health check-up should be done with the advice of a doctor.
The UK Department of National Health Services has provided information on some of the symptoms of cancer that have been advised to seek medical advice if they persist for a long time. There are no separate signs or symptoms of cancer. Like other diseases, it has common symptoms. However, as with other diseases, the symptoms get better with treatment, but not with cancer. Rather the symptoms remain and gradually increase further.
